OSLO CATHEDRAL (DOMKIRKE), and some nearby sights -- FEBRUARY 12 --

The OSLO CATHEDRAL was an easy walk from the hotel. It has beautiful stained glass windows and a ceiling painting. The organ has a small set of pipes near the manual, and a larger set opposite. Gilt wood carving forms much of the decorations.

In the square just outside the church, there is a memorial for a mass murder in 2011, a car-bombing of government offices nearby killing 8 people, and a mass gun attack at the Workers' Youth League summer camp on Ut√łya island killing 69 people. The perpetrator Anders Behring Breivik espoused anti-Marxist and anti-Islamic beliefs. He was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic by forensic psychiatrists. He was convicted in August 2012 and sentenced to 21 years of "preventive detention" with the possibility of indefinite five year extensions for public safety, the maximum sentence allowed in Norway. (see the Wikipedia article Wiki 2011 attack)

Two clerics commemorated, one with an appreciative pigeon.

King Christian IV, with Gordon I

I don't know the significance of these bronze chickens that share the square with King Christian.

A nearby souvenir shop, with trolls.
