Schönbrunn Palace and gardens - imperial summer palace. Mansion first built 1548. Estate bought in 1569 by emporer Maximmillian II, who made the grounds a game reserve. Expanded 1638-1644 by Eleanora Gonzoga, widow of Ferdinand II. Ownership passed to the Republic of Austria in 1918.
